Hideo Kojima reportedly signs ‘letter of intent’ with Xbox

It’s being reported that Death Stranding director Hideo Kojima and Xbox may be one step closer to working on what could wind up to be a future game from the Metal Gear Solid creator.

NOW READ: Holiday Deals now live on Amazon & Best Buy. Big brands such as Lenovo and Samsung are also starting to offer Holiday discounts early, with many more to follow.

According to VentureBeat, the two have signed a ‘letter of intent’ that says the two parties intend to work out the details on a publishing agreement for an as-yet-unannounced Xbox game. Citing “sources familiar with the matter” VentureBeat say while this isn’t a guarantee of such a game, it does mean that a partnership is on the table as lawyers for both sides work out the finer details.

Allegedly, the deal is close enough that Microsoft has already started the process of preparing resources that Kojima Productions will need to start work on the game. It’s claimed that last month’s hiring of former Portal lead Kim Swift to the Xbox Game Studio Publishing division is a part of these preparations.

It’s also worth noting that this deal apparently doesn’t prevent Kojima Productions from working with other companies, although likely not on the same game. This does make sense, what with Death Stranding: Director’s Cut still to come from Kojima’s studio later this year on the PlayStation 5.

It may be a while before we hear of anything coming from this too, as apparently the point of the partnership—VentureBeat says—is to “unlock the creativity of Kojima Productions using Microsoft’s technology as opposed to greenlighting a specific pitch.”  Neither company has commented on the reports at the time of writing either, so take them with the required pinch of salt.

However, we do know Kojima Productions were hiring for people to work on a new project last October. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if these talks bear any fruit.
