It has been a weird time to be a Helldivers 2 player over the past few days. Following an announcement by Sony that all players will be required to link a PSN account to their Steam account, it caused a lot of backlash within the community, especially from those who are in countries that don’t have PSN support.

Following over 170,000 negative reviews being left, Sony has now removed Helldivers 2 from 170 countries and territories to prevent them from purchasing it while this issue gets resolved. With many players unable to play it when this new change goes into effect, some Helldivers have decided to refund the game and move on, at least for now.

How to refund Helldivers 2 on Steam

Here is how to refund Helldivers 2 on Steam.

  • Head to https://help.steampowered.com/en/ and log in to your Steam account, if you have Steam Guard active you may need to verify your login through the app too.
  • Click on Purchases and on the next page select Helldivers 2, or any other game that you want to be refunded. If it isn’t in your recent purchases you can click ‘View Complete Purchase History’ to see older purchases.
  • On the next page click ‘I would like a refund’ and then ‘I’d like to request a refund’
  • Choose your refund method, which can be granted as either Steam Wallet credit or it can be paid back to your original purchase method.
  • In the next box, give your reason why you would like it refunded. If you are refunding Helldivers 2 then explain the issue with PSN linking, whether you don’t agree with it or PSN isn’t available in your country.
  • Remember, be respectful. I know many players are frustrated with this current situation, but you need to remember to be respectful to Valve, it can never hurt when trying to get a refund too.

NOTE: If you purchased a Steam key from a third-party website, you can’t refund the game via Steam. You could try to contact the company you purchased it from, but Steam keys are often not refundable once redeemed.

It is also worth noting that if you’ve owned the game for longer than 14 days with more than 2 hours of playtime it isn’t a guarantee that Valve will refund you. But, with the current controversy, it seems like people are getting refunded with no issues, with some players having over 200 hours of playtime and still securing a refund.

But, if you’re still going to be Helldiving and bringing democracy to the galaxy despite the current PSN controversy, the next Major Order should go live on Monday.
