August is an exciting month for the PlayStation and Xbox communities. While Xbox is getting the critically acclaimed darling Helldivers 2, on the very same day PlayStation 5 is getting the beloved Microsoft franchise, Gears of War. It’s essentially a trade between PlayStation and Xbox, and it’s pretty much fantastic news for everyone. While Xbox has brought a lot of former console exclusives to PS5, with rumors of more on the way such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, the only PS5 game we know of getting into bed with Xbox is HD2. However, this will seemingly change as a Sony job listing suggests more PS5 games will join Xbox after Helldivers 2, but insiders have warned fans are “getting really carried away”.

More PS5 games to join Xbox after Helldivers 2

The release date for Helldivers 2 on Xbox consoles is August 26th. This is a landmark moment for the gaming industry as it’s the first PlayStation-published game to drop on Microsoft’s console. This is in wake of Xbox first bringing their console exclusives to PS5 starting in 2024 with fantastic experiences such as Sea of Thieves and especially HiFi Rush.

After the HD2 announcement for Xbox, many have been wondering if more Sony Interactive Entertainment-published games will join Microsoft’s platform. A recent job listing from Sony suggests this will happen as the publisher is a seeking an individual in San Mateo, CA, for Senior Director, Multiplatform, and Account Management with the following overview:

“Reporting to the Vice President, Commercial Management as Senior Director of Multiplatform & Account Management, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the global commercial strategy for PlayStation Studios software titles across all digital platforms beyond PlayStation hardware, including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile. This role is accountable for optimizing title profitability, ensuring cross-functional alignment, and leading a high-performing team focused on multiplatform expansion, mid-range commercial planning, and platform partner management.”

The above overview suggests Sony wish to bring more PS5 games to other platforms, with Xbox specifically namedropped. Steam and Epic Games are not newsworthy on their own as lots of PlayStation console exclusives have jumped onto PC, but the inclusion of Xbox is interesting.

While some might be dreaming up the likes of The Last of Us, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and God of War on Xbox consoles, insiders are warning this is unlikely. Insider Shinobi warned “people getting really carried away with that job listing,” while later posting “yes, to these type of things,” in response to a message speculating that most games coming to Xbox will be games-as-a-service if they make sense.

In addition to Shinobi, reowned insider, NateTheHate, has also suggested it’ll likely be live-service games joining Xbox only, such as possibly Fairgames$ which is currently in-development. As for whether a beloved exclusive such as Grand Turismo 7 counts as live-service, Nate said that’s a “Grey area”.

This is just speculation from Nate and Shinobi as neither 100% know Sony’s plans, but they don’t believe Sony are ditching their model of first-party console exclusives, except for possibly live-service games and smaller spin-offs, such as LEGO Horizon and possibly the leaked God of War 2.5D Metroidvania.

We will have to wait and see what type of PlayStation-published games make the leap to Xbox consoles following in the footsteps of Helldivers 2. Marathon is the next PlayStation-published game coming to Xbox as Sony own Bungie, which again lends credence to the belief that it may just be live-service games.
