It is no secret that Helldivers 2 has been in a freefall over the past few months, with players leaving the game in droves. Although this is natural for any game, the rate at which players were moving on was quite alarming. Despite being one of the best-selling games of 2024, the future was beginning to look bleak, but that looks to be changing as Helldivers 2 has seen its first sign of recovery.

According to Steamdb, Helldivers 2 has begun to see the concurrent player increase consistently for the first time since the PSN controversy in May 2024. Its 24-hour peak on Steam reached 38,663 concurrent players, with a 24-hour low of 18,450. For comparison, when I last reported on the player count on July 22nd, the game had seen a 24-hour peak of 32,983 players, with a low that had dropped to just 9,796, the first time that Helldivers 2 had seen a player count of less than 10,000. This is an 88% increase in 24-hour lows within two weeks, which is great to see. The 24-hour high has also seen a 17% increase, a very positive step in the right direction. At the time of writing, there were 34,226 players active on Steam, and 54,068 across both PC and PS5, which would put the estimate of peak total player count for the day at around 60,000-63,000.

This looks to indicate that Helldivers 2 is beginning to see an upward trend in players, which could be for many reasons. Some players may be jumping in to try and complete the current Major Order to continue the meme of trying to not receive the Anti-Tank Mines. Or, it could also be an indicator that players are excited for the upcoming Escalation of Freedom update on August 6th and the Freedom’s Flame Warbond on August 8th.

Whatever the reason may be, it is working and it is bringing some players back, even if the increase is marginal in the grand scheme of things. It will be interesting to see how the figures increase over the coming days and hopefully, it will be a significant change that will help put Helldivers 2 back on course.

If you have been MIA from the Galactic War, it is not too late to repent for your treason and get back to diving. Huge changes are coming to the game over the coming days which will bring plenty of new content to check out.
