Starting any new game can be incredibly daunting, especially when it comes to a game like Helldivers 2 that throws you in at the deep end and lets you figure it out on your own. But, it is also one of the most rewarding games to learn for that reason.
Over 12 million people have purchased Helldivers 2, making it one of the hottest games of 2024. That also means that a lot of mistakes have been made and a lot of Helldivers have been killed in action while trying to figure out the game. U/Legolandback took to Reddit to ask the community for help as they’re just starting their journey in Helldivers 2. In the post, players discuss the beginner tips and tricks that they wish they knew starting out.
U/Banaab took to the replies to give the most important piece of advice, “Samples, super credits, and medals are shared by all players in a squad so no need to compete for picking them up.”
On a related point, my tips would be that if you are near your extraction point at any point in the mission, go and drop your Samples there. That way, if you get killed during the mission you won’t drop your Samples as sometimes it can be difficult to retrieve them if you get overwhelmed.
U/Pupienus_Maximus gave a useful tip that it’s ok to run away from a fight and regroup, “Don’t be afraid to run. Sometimes a tactical retreat is better than standing and fighting multiple bug holes or bot drops. You can always swing back later and clear an objective.”
U/PhysioMage advised that all players spend time in the lower difficulties saying “Do not skip the low difficulty missions. They teach you many important game mechanics, so do them and pay attention to the in-game tooltips.”
