Despite still being a new game, a set meta has already been discovered in Helldivers 2, with many players being unwilling to deviate away from it, some are even willing to kick other players that don’t follow it. As the game becomes more balanced it will likely change, but nerfing and buffing usually ends up sacrificing certain weapons and leaving them unviable in most scenarios in the game, and this is the case with the Railgun following the buff to many rocket weapons.

Players have taken to Reddit to discuss how the Railgun is no longer a viable weapon following both it’s nerf and the buff made to rockets. With the most recent balance changes, rockets can now take out larger tank enemies in one hit, with the Arc Thrower being useful for Terminids and the Anti-Matetial Rifle for Automatons. This has led to there being no need for the Railgun to be in the game now. Unfortunately, this can become very common as players discover metas, and unless the developers provide use cases for weapons, players will tend to stick to a set loadout of weapons in order to eliminate certain enemies. This is good for consistency but it does hinder possible innovation as players are less motivated to discover more efficient ways to play.

Helldivers 2 recently saw it’s 1.000.104 update released which helped players take on the Automaton hordes after having been previously ignored in favor of the Terminids. It is great to see Arrowhead Game Studios make them more accessible as most players have been purposely avoiding the planets that they reside on due to the difficulty of taking them out. With the Terminids recently being dealt a major blow following multiple Major Orders, it will be interesting to see whether the developers bring the robots back into the story. But, it may not be for long as The Illuminate looks to be on the horizon and coming to the game soon after having been a major focus on Helldivers 1.

if you haven’t had a chance to try out Helldivers 2 yet, now would be a great time to start as it is more popular than ever, with over 200,000 concurrent players on Steam at almost all times as well as recently reaching over eight million copies sold.
