Helldivers 2 has many problems that have been turning players away from the game. This has caused the player count to drop below 10,000 on multiple occasions. Although the developers are committed to fixing the game, it is unclear whether it is too little too late. But, many players, including myself, are hopeful that fixing these problems will help to bring players back and rebuild the community.

U/Chaffychaffinch took to the Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to discuss the lack of audio cues in the game, particularly with enemies such as the Berserker which has chainsaws on its arms. In the post, they said “These guys should be making loud chainsaw noises as they get close. It would let you know if they’re behind you and additionally, it would make them way more terrifying than they already are.”

This is an issue that affects most enemies in Helldivers 2, with only a small amount such as the Factory Strider having audio cues to let players know their locations and attacks. Whether it is the Hulks, Spewers, or even Tanks, enemies can often sneak up on you with no indication they are in your vicinity until they are attacking you.

Audio can often be an issue in other multiplayer games, with titles such as Fortnite sometimes not playing audio sounds from opponents so you’re unaware that they are near you. This is likely due to the online connection and sometimes it just doesn’t work as intended. However, when it comes to Helldivers 2, it seems that the audio is just completely missing from the game, with U/Fran_484 recounting a story where they “got ran over by a tank once,” going to explain that “It wasn’t firing at me, just ran me over.”

This is a major issue that has affected the game ever since launch and Arrowhead shows no sign of improving the audio any time soon. Currently, the developers are working on a 60-day roadmap that aims to rectify many of the issues that caused backlash following the Escalation of Freedom update, as well as fix problems that have plagued Helldivers 2 for many months.

While some players are understandably skeptical, the Arrowhead CCO Johan Pilestedt is excited for the next update, which will largely focus on buffing and balancing weapons. With weapons such as the Breaker Incendiary Shotgun being nerfed last month, many players are looking for a new loadout to replace it.
