It has been a turbulent month for Helldivers 2 and Arrowhead Game Studios, from the PSN controversy to Johan Pilestedt stepping down as CEO to become CCO, a lot has changed in just a few weeks. Although things have been rocky and the Helldivers 2 community has been declining in numbers as players leave the game, there is hope on the horizon and many believe these changes will be a good thing in the long term.

U/tmcfll took to Reddit to discuss the current state of Helldivers 2, as well as the rapidly decreasing player count.

“There’s a lot of mixed feelings on the current state of the game, but I see a lot of promising signs that AH are adjusting course, such as JP stepping down from CEO to CCO.

But figuring out what changes to make, and then how best to implement them, will not happen overnight. Realistically we probably won’t start seeing the results of this shift for at least a month or two, and even then it’ll likely be small incremental changes to begin with.

If you’re really frustrated and not having fun these days, take a break and check back in a month or two. Don’t expect fixes overnight. Don’t expect every patch to solve a ton of issues. You’ll only set yourself up for further disappointment and frustration. Take a break, and we’ll see you when you come back!”

With the executive change, it will take a while for its effects to become apparent as Pilestedt begins to focus more on the game development side of things. One of the key changes that Pilestedt wants to make is that developers will spend more time playing the game itself, as it is difficult to know what is working and what isn’t if they rarely play the game. It will take a few months to see the benefit of this change, but I believe that this is the right call for Arrowhead Game Studios and it is very promising news.

Although the game isn’t in the best state right now, there is still democracy to bring the galaxy in the form of liberating an Automaton planet, and after failing a guaranteed winner in the previous Major Order, the Helldivers are really letting Super Earth down.
