As much as I enjoy sweating in Helldivers 2 and taking down hundreds of Automatons and Terminids in the name of democracy, sometimes it is nice to just have a breather from the onslaught. Thankfully, this tip could allow for that and also make some missions much easier to complete, even at higher difficulties. The Smoke grenade gets a bit of a bad rep, and is ranked right at the bottom of our best grenades list. However, some gamers are finding out ways to make the most out of them.
U/LurkerFromDownUnder took to Reddit to share a handy tip for using the Smoke Grenades, which could make them an essential part of anyone’s loadout, especially when completing missions such as the Geological Survey mission.
“Holding a smoke grenade until it explodes in your hand does no damage, stun or knockback to you but immediately hides you from all enemy line of sight. They will continue to fire at the general direction of where they think they last saw you so using this trick before heading around a large obstacle frees you from most aggression, even on D9.”
This is a great tip for missions where you need to remain in a set location for an extended period, such as the aforementioned Geological Survey mission. Being able to be shrouded in smoke would make things much easier, although I guess you would still have to deal with the enemies once the smoke dissipates.
One of the best uses for this could be when extracting during higher-difficulty missions. This is something I have found to be incredibly difficult when there is an endless horde of enemies trying to take you out, especially when playing against the Automatons. Being able to cloak yourself while letting the timer countdown could be a great way to make this easier.
It is worth noting that carrying the Smoke Grenades would mean that you can’t carry regular Grenades, which has its own drawbacks, such as not being able to destroy Fabricators as easily. But, you could either carry a Grenade Launcher Stratagem or the Grenade Pistol so that is one option.
This will be a tactic I will be trying out in future missions, especially when exploring the new X-45 jungle planet that is the focus of the current Major Order.
