Helldivers 2 is currently one of the most popular games on the market, already selling over eight million copies since its release in February 2024. With the game consistently seeing between 100,000-200,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, it is one of the most played games alongside staples of gaming such as CS: GO, Dota, and GTA Online. Its high-action, team-based missions which see players take down hordes of tough enemies are incredibly addicting and keep players coming back to Helldivers 2 each day. Some players claim it’s the most fun they’ve had for many years. With waves of Terminids threatening to eliminate players at a moment’s notice, it can be very adrenaline-inducing, leaving players feeling a badass when the mission is a success.
Reddit user U/KungFoo_Fool detailed a recent mission in Helldivers 2 which left them feeling like a badass and that they’d never had “so much fun before in decades of gaming.” The story begins with a mission alongside three random players. After retrieving “all [of] the super samples, and running to extract,” the team was “getting flooded with a bad ion storm screwing things up.” As things started to look bleak, the Reddit user called a mech along with another teammate, which is when they started feeling like a badass thinking “Yeah, let’s do this bro!”
Further explaining the scenario, KungFoo_Fool said “We go back-to-back and just sweep bile titans, chargers, and swarms left and right. Using all our ammo in literally 30 seconds. We clear it for a brief minute before another wave approaches in the distance. We throw down our supp weapons while we get a breather and thin it with some good orb strikes and eagle runs. Manage to hold out until barely running onto the dropship.”
This left the user feeling like a badass, calling Helldivers 2 a “gem.” With its high action and steady flow of Terminids which can quickly overwhelm you and ruin your mission at a moment’s notice, moments like this can really hype you up and make you feel like an action hero, or you’re recreating moments from the 1997 movie Starship Troopers.
Similarly, another Reddit player recently took the platform to recall a noob’s heroic mission to retrieve samples that three experienced players were unable to do while fending off hordes of Terminids. This story was great because it shows that new players don’t need to get intimidated when jumping into the game for the first time.
