Helldivers 2 regularly receives updates and Arrowhead has recently released patch 01.000.300. While most of the patch was well received, there has been a lot of controversy with many players claiming that changes to ricochet have the made the game ‘unplayable’. Fortunately, Helldivers 2 developer, Arrowhead, have released a statement announcing a new incoming weapon buff while addressing the ricochet uproar.

You can check out the full update 01.000.300 patch notes to see all of the balance changes and fixes implemented earlier this week. While the ricochet controversy is at the forefront of the game’s community circles, the dev has also stated that another significant weapon issue will get fixed ‘late Spring-ish’. In addition, Arrowhead is ‘looking into changes‘ for a controversial gameplay mechanic.

The developer is always listening and responding to feedback from the community. Many fans have lately complained about dying from ricochets, and Arrowhead has explained the root of the dilemma while announcing that the Eruptor is set to receive buffs.

Helldivers 2 reveals incoming Eruptor buffs

Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has released a statement in response to the ricochet uproar in the game’s community. On Reddit, there are numerous posts about the controversy with one claiming ricochets have made the game ‘unplayable’, meanwhile, another states that ‘ricochet is bs‘ with accompanying gameplay footage as evidence.

This controversy all stems from the recent update 01.000.300. Per the patch notes, ‘Shots that ricochet from heavy armored enemies will now properly hit the Helldiver who fired them. Trigger discipline is highly recommended.’

Seeing all of the feedback online, Arrowhead Games community manager, Spitz, released a statement on Discord. Some Reddit posts claimed that rockets and explosives were ricocheting, but this is not true according to Arrowhead:

‘In response to a post on Reddit, we looked into the possibility of rockets and other explosives being affected by ricochets,’ reads the statement. ‘This has since been debunked by the community, but nonetheless, our Ministry of Defence team also ran a number of tests today and confirmed that rockets and explosives are not ricocheting’.

While rockets and explosives are not ricocheting, Arrowhead has uncovered faults with the Eruptor. The developer intends to ‘remove the shrapnel effect’ as highlighted in the statement below:

‘We have noticed another issue through these posts and community feedback that has identified the possibility for shots from the R-36 Eruptor to explode and rebound shrapnel at the shooter, which has a high enough damage value to instantly kill the player. To prevent this, we’re looking to completely remove the shrapnel effect from the Eruptor but will be increasing its hit damage as a result. This should make it less lethal to the user but just as powerful against enemies.’

The statement further elaborates on the incoming buffs for the Eruptor:

‘It should maintain its destructive power, and as it is still classed as explosive, it will not lose the ability to break objects, close holes, destroy fabricators, etc. This will, overall, be a buff to the weapon as the random shrapnel played an almost negligible part in the damage and power it dealt. It will still deal both impact and AOE damage, and both of these damage values will be increased to make it just as powerful, and more consistent.’
