Right now, Arrowhead are on the beach. There is plenty to look forward to for when they are back including the release on Xbox consoles, as well as the implementation of a highly-requested feature that Arrowhead are “not rushing until it’s in a good place”. While all of this is exciting, the Helldivers 2 CCO has revealed that Arrowhead also have plans for an improved UI system.
Helldivers 2 dev is working on improved UI system
On Reddit, there has been some discontent over the recent voting system for naming the city of remembrance. Gun was the ultimate winner, and even the CEO shared their disdain for the name winning.
The Reddit community has argued that voting shouldn’t be done on Discord alone as it is only a minority of the entire playerbase. In the comments, users argued for the implementation of a voting system in-game, to which many users jested, “knowing AH, it’s probably a massive change for them and would break 50% of the rest of the game’s functionality”.
To the above comment, Arrowhead CCO, Pilestedt, responded, “Hey! That’s mean… and also sadly true”. While acknowledging the harsh truth of the comment, Pilestedt revealed that Arrowhead’s “UI system is very cumbersome to develop,” but Arrowhead are “working on an improved system that will allow [them to] build ingame UI faster”.
As for why voting takes place on Discord, Pilestedt said Arrowhead “made a decision early to focus on Discord as primary platform for the community [because] it’s what [Arrowhead] use internally for playtests and for other games”.
Unfortunately, there’s no more elaboration from Pilestedt. However, the promise of an improved UI system is exciting, especially with the take that it will Arrowhead to “build ingame UI faster”. As for voting, it would be fantastic if it could happen in-game. The Discord community is very committed, but it is only a very small slice of the entire playerbase that exists on Steam, PS5, and soon Xbox.
