Arrowhead have made Automatons stronger with Hulks that can fly, and it doesn’t appear the Automaton threat will disappear anytime soon as the developer is reportedly playtesting bot cities. While there’s more incoming danger from the bots, players mustn’t forget about the Illuminate as they are rallying the troops, too. Leaks have revealed all sorts of new squids ready to join the Illuminate’s army, and now it appears Super Earth soldiers in Helldivers 2 may be haunted by Illuminate ghosts as leaks reveal a new mind-breaking enemy.
Helldivers 2 leak reveals “strange” new Illuminate enemy
On X, Iron_S1ghts has leaked a “fake” Xenobite Variant. This “fake” Xenobite is said to have been added with “Omens of Tyranny,” and it is reportedly a “strange variant… [that] has 10 HP, and glitches out when you shoot it, disappearing”.
In addition, “It spawns in a beam that shoots down from the sky,” and “it cannot attack you, it only walks around and alerts others to you”.
So, basically, the enemy is an Illusion that is designed to hunt down and trick players while alerting real Illuminate to their whereabouts. It’s a cool decoy that people in the replies have compared to “ghosts” and “hallucinations”.
Unfortunately, there’s no more elaboration from Iron_S1ghts. In the replies, there is speculation that these ghosts might be how Arrowhead “handle the confusion mechanic by showing a bunch of decoys instead of messing with your controls”.
Previous Illuminate leaks have revealed more new enemies that may join their army. These include a “sniper and close-range assassin,” as well as the returning Illusionist and more. There’s no ETA on when these new forces might join the Illuminate, but it appears the squids are conducting their own ‘we want you’ recruitment campaign behind-the-scenes.
