Helldivers 2 recently received a massive new update. Similar to the other patch that came out in September, this update has provided a large number of weapon buffs and changes. While most of the improvements are appreciated, the Helldivers 2 patch has devastated one of the game’s coolest and most unique weapons.

You can check out the update 01.001.104 patch notes to see the all of the changes implemented by Arrowhead. In addition, Arrowhead has recently included a clever wink to Halo and Silent Hill, and, as for new content, the release date for Liberty Day is less than two weeks away. It’s also possible the Illuminate are set to land very soon.

While the arrival of Liberty Day is exciting, right now players are still reacting to the changes made in the latest Helldivers 2 patch. Mostly everything has been well received except for the adjustments made to the Plasma Punisher.

New Helldivers 2 patch has devastated Plasma Punisher

In the Helldivers 2 update 01.001.104, the following changes were made to the SG-8P Punisher Plasma:

  • Reduced recoil
  • Fire rate increased from 80 to 100

While this is all that was mentioned in the patch notes, fans are not happy with the changes made by Arrowhead. On the Helldivers subreddit, fans have called for the Plasma Punisher changes to be reverted.

A lot of players agree that the weapon “feels much worse” now, and it has transitioned from their “favorite weapon” to something that now feels “terrible” and “useless”. The community claims that the Plasma Punisher is now worse for the following reasons:

  • It no longer feels like the heavyweight of the plasma weapons. It used to be truly unique and was honestly almost perfect.
  • We miss the half meter detonation radius of the projectile. It made it feel bigger and more impactful. Now It feels like a scorcher projectile which breaks the unique power fantasy of the weapon.
  • The new falloff curve is useless in any practical way because it drops off at such a specific range that it cannot be exploited at any other range. It is also much harder to estimate.
  • It didn’t need a faster rate of fire. The slow rate of fire gave the experience weight. Now, it feels like the average weightless energy weapon of most games. It should feel like a shotgun and it used to.

While it’s unknown if Arrowhead will revert the changes, they have at least responded to a complaint on Discord. Players on Discord have been calling for the Plasma Punisher changes to be reverted, too, and one user specifically complained that they “absolutely despise the collision detection [as] unless you hit a bot or bug squarely in the chest, it passes through”.

In response to the complaint, community manager Twinbeard said “Thx! Relaying that to devs for them to delve into”.
