The Game Awards 2024 was full of big reveals as The Witcher IV, Borderlands 4, and more titles were announced in the main show. This year’s show also had some surprise winners with Astro Bot clutching multiple wins across different categories and one game joined them in the process, and that was Helldivers 2.
The multiplayer title by Arrowhead Game Studios won big as the Best Multiplayer Game, beating games like Call of Duty Black Ops 6 and Tekken 8 in the same category. However, the party did not stop there.
The game also grabbed the Best Ongoing Game, where games like Fortnite were touted to be the favored choice.
Helldivers 2 wins Best Ongoing Game and devs were surprised
Helldivers 2 grabbed another win at The Game Awards 2024 as the Best Ongoing Game, a game that offers frequent live service updates to its players, similar to that of Fortnite. But it seems like this year, Fortnite took another L back home as Helldivers 2 devs took the glorious trophy home.
The award was presented by Snoop Dogg and his son Cordell Broadus as they spoke about their new venture Death Row Games. Accepting the award on behalf of Arrowhead Game Studios were Mikael Eriksson and Elina Nitsan.
In a heartfelt speech, the devs were surprised by the win as Eriksoon said, “Wow I did not expect that. I’m very honored to be accepting the award on behalf of the amazing team over in Stockholm, Sweden that made this possible.”
He continued, “Thanks, The Game Awards for this honor, thank you PlayStation and our partners for believing in us over all of these years, and most importantly thanks to our amazing players for the support this last year. It’s been super inspiring to see everything that you’ve done to the game since we launched it and we are very committed to keep going with this game for many more years to come. Thanks a lot, and For Super Earth!”
To those who missed it, the long-awaited Illuminate update is now out on Helldivers 2 in a new Major Order for players to complete.
