Revealed at The Game Awards 2024, The Witcher 4 has been officially confirmed by CD Projekt RED. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, the new RPG brings players back to the beautiful world of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy world after the release of Cyberpunk 2077.
The Witcher 4 announced
Confirmed alongside games from Deus Ex creator Warren Spector and a new Ninja Gaiden, The Witcher 4 puts players in the shoes of Ciri. Following the events of The Wild Hunt, Ciri is now a full-fledged monster hunter.
While Geralt is said to be present in the game, at least according to his voice actor, the beloved protagonist is no longer taking the leading role. Instead, the focus is on Ciri as the studio starts a “new saga” without Geralt in the driver’s seat.
“The Witcher IV is an upcoming single-player open-world RPG from CD PROJEKT RED, the creators of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The beginning of a new saga, and a follow-up to one of the most acclaimed RPGs of all time, Ciri takes center stage as the protagonist, embarking on her own journey to become a professional monster slayer,” reads the game’s official synopsis.
No release date has been announced for the new open world game, but it is expected to release sometime in either 2026 or beyond. No platforms have been confirmed at the time of writing, but it’s expected to release on PC and console.
