Helldivers 2 has had a strong year, and Arrowhead will be looking to make 2025 even better. The developer has revealed some of their upcoming plans for the game, but a lot of what is reported to be known about the future stems from leaks. These leaks aren’t official so they may never materialize, but a fresh leak has revealed details about a new dark eclipse event in Helldivers 2 that sounds pretty unnerving on paper.
As for what we know is coming to HD2, Arrowhead are planning to add vehicles to the game, and we are still awaiting the arrival of the Illuminate. In regard to the Illuminate, very little is official about their eventual invasion, but dataminers have discovered evidence of a portal, meanwhile, leaks have revealed an assortment of objectives for when they are added to the galactic war.
While the Illuminate is the big baddie everyone is anticipating, Helldivers 2 players can also look forward to a dark eclipse event according to leaks.
Helldivers 2 leak reveals dark eclipse event
On the HelldiversLeaks subreddit, OP Tier5NPC has revealed details about a dark eclipse event for HD2. There are snippets of gameplay included, but it’s important to point out that these snippets use “fully custom night vision system along with armors and weapons that are NOT native to the game,” so they are not to be treated as new features for HD2.
Per the leaker, this event is making its resurgence from HD1 as a “potential new planet sided event”. According to the leak, this “Planetary Eclipse event/hazard” will plunge the “map in a darkness of deep blue and on certain maps completely in darkness to the point the only source of lights will be your beacons, Weapon-Mounted flashlights and of course, flare”.
While the bit about complete darkness sounds unnerving, there is the disclaimer that this is “to be taken with a grain of salt as in the state it’s in right now it’s borderline unplayable”. It’s possible that maps will be plunged in darkness, but not to the extent captured in the leaks.
In the darkness, “clankers still seem to be able to detect helldivers at quite a moderate distance,” and “automatons stick out like light bulbs in the darkness due to their glowing red eyes”. As for bugs, they “only see smoke until you start running, shooting your weapon or call down a stratagem”.
According to the OP, the event will have an exclusive flare stratagem that “will not take any of your current stratagem slots”. There is speculation from the OP that this dark eclipse event could be tied to the previously leaked blue planet, but this is just speculation rather than anything concrete.

Of course, none of the above is official, so it’s not something that will definitely arrive in the future. However, on paper, it certainly sounds exciting as fighting bugs, automatons, and clankers in the dark sounds pretty intense.
