Arrowhead are back from vacation and they have started their focus on bug fixes and optimization with the release of update 01.003.202. While the developer has teased new enemies that will continue the “trend” of being “more complex,” don’t expect any new content before the release on Xbox consoles. Microsoft players will be recruited onto the battlefield soon, and the Arrowhead CEO has implored fans to “send your thanks” to PlayStation for the unprecedented release of Helldivers 2 on Xbox consoles.
Helldivers 2 CEO says “send your thanks” to PlayStation for Xbox release
Helldivers 2 is set to join Xbox on August 26th. It is only a few more weeks away, and we absolutely cannot wait for Microsoft players to join the fight for democracy.
On Discord, a user thanked Arrowhead for managing to get HD2 onto Xbox. Some believe Arrowhead played a large role in getting the game onto Microsoft systems, but CEO, Shams Jorjani, admitted “It was all PlayStation” while imploring fans to “Send them your thanks”.
As for whether Arrowhead expected Sony to make the move of bringing Helldivers 2 to Xbox, Jorjani said, “I think it’s one of the coolest things they’ve done. They’re killing it”.
The praise for Sony didn’t end there as in another message Jorjani admitted Arrowhead “get lot of help from PlayStation” in response to a fan asking if “AH have a super test team that focuses on bug fixing”.
It is great that PlayStation were the catalysts behind making Helldivers 2 the first Sony Interactive Entertainment-published game on Xbox consoles. Bringing games to other systems isn’t too surprising as Sony has done it with PC for Steam and Epic Games, but Sony has never gotten in bed with Xbox until now after Microsoft made the first move in 2024 bringing some of their console exclusives to PS5 including Sea of Thieves, Forza Horizon 5, and the brilliant Hi-Fi Rush.
The partnership between Sony and Xbox is continuing well beyond HD2. Gears of War Reloaded is coming to PS5 the same day HD2 joins Xbox, and there are rumors of more Xbox console exclusives joining PS5 soon such as Microsoft Flight Simulator.
As for more Sony-published games joining Xbox, Helldivers 2 is the first and then there will be the release of Marathon by Bungie, who Sony own. A recent PlayStation job listing also explicitly states a willingness to port more PlayStation console exclusives to Xbox, and the speculation is that it may be live-service games only, but that’s not official.
