Helldivers 2 is a fantastic game that has had a lot of life breathed into it once more thanks to Arrowhead’s latest patch. This patch delivered an insane amount of buffs that have made the HD2 community extremely happy. There is complaints from some about a lack of challenge, and the Helldivers 2 CCO has agreed a “harder difficulty” mode is needed.
The update 01.001.100 patch notes are available to browse at whim, and players have found even more massive buffs not mentioned in the patch notes. All of the buffs have been received extremely well by the community, and, fortunately, Arrowhead is not yet content making everything more explosive as they have confirmed another exciting buff set to arrive in the “next patch“.
While buffs are greatly appreciated, the only downside for some is that it has removed a bit of challenge from the highest difficulty. The Arrowhead CCO agrees, and the developer is planning to look at the highest difficulty without enforcing a challenge through nerfs.
Helldivers 2 might add “harder difficulty” mode
On X, the Arrowhead CCO and Helldivers 2 creative director, Pilestedt, asked the community for their thoughts on update 01.001.100. Most of the feedback received was extremely complimentary which is reflected in the improvement of reviews on Steam as well as the player count more than doubling.
However, despite receiving mostly compliments, there were a few complaints about the difficulty. One user commented, “Everything is great but we need a harder difficulty now”. To this, the creative director responded, “I agree!”.
Another user commented, “I don’t get why ppl didn’t play on easier level instead of complaining. Now any level is a walk in the park. Even big bugs get thrashed sooo fast, it’s kinda sad”. Pilestedt replied, “We are going to look at the challenge of the game for those high tier players, it’s in the pipe”.
Following calls to add a “harder difficulty” mode, one user suggested it be called “Extra super helldive”. Pilestedt chimed in, “And then Extra Super Duper Helldive, just keep going – it’s a naming convention that makes sense!”.
The addition of an even higher difficulty mode would be great so long as it’s balanced and conceived without jeopardising the current weapon stats. Fortunately, that appears to be the intention.
In response to pleas not to nerf any weapons, Pilestedt said, “Especially when it comes to damage; nerfing is an unimaginative way of tweaking a game”. The creative director also stated Arrowhead “should *never* remove what makes the weapon fun in the first place”.
It’s not guaranteed that we will get an extra difficulty mode, but it’s at least something Arrowhead are going to look at for high tier players. We hope it does materialize as, without nerfing weapons, it would be an optional challenge that could surely only benefit the game.
