Helldivers 2, the interstellar cooperative adventure from Arrowhead Games, has finally been announced during the May 2023 PlayStation showcase. The trailer predictably exhibited plenty of outer space-based action with a group of astronauts doing their best to fend off hordes of extraterrestrial creatures.

Based on the narration that could be heard throughout the short video, it seems that this upcoming title is going to be a multiplayer extraction game much like its 2015 predecessor. It was also revealed towards the end of the clip that it would be released in 2023 for current gen systems only including the PS5 and PC.

With this in mind, we can most likely expect it to be launched towards the latter part of the year together with some of the other highly-anticipated games. This means Helldivers 2 will have a similar time frame as the Spider-Man 2 release date and the Alan Wake 2 release date so these sequels are seemingly participating in a bit of an unplanned competition.

The design and gameplay snippets shown during the preview were largely reminiscent of previous generation FPS titles and the core premise seemed to be that of an exciting and fast-paced shoot ’em up. However, this was only a quick look at Helldivers 2 so far so it may completely change once it eventually gets released.

Unlike the first game, though, it seems that this follow-up entry will largely be focusing on its multiplayer aspect as opposed to its single-player features. Since video game companies are now largely moving their focus over onto live-service titles, this may now also be the case for Helldivers 2 and Arrowhead Games.

If you want to check out the trailer for yourself, then you’ll be able to do so here. This should at least give you an idea of what’s in store so you know what to expect once it gets launched in what should be around late 2023.
