It’s been speculated that the upcoming racer Gran Turismo 7 could be getting a beta test, thanks to mentions of one on the PlayStation website.

As first spotted by GTPlanet, the beta was mentioned as part of a special Experience PlayStation section of the website which allows those signed up exclusive access to PlayStation related live promotions and experiences. According to them, when logging in, a new campaign entitled “Italia Quest” includes four quests, with a “Gran Turismo Beta (Test)” quest as one of four in the campaign. While the promotion seems to be aimed at Italian fans, it is apparently accessible regardless of region.

The quest itself requires players to watch the original trailer to unlock a code to the beta. However, at the time of writing it appears to offer up a standard dummy code to everyone who attempts to access it. It’s thought this code might be a placeholder, and this scheme isn’t meant to be accessible just yet.

Still, it still seems to strongly indicate a beta test for Gran Turismo 7 may indeed be in the plans. The previous title in the series, Gran Turismo Sport on the PlayStation 4, also had a beta some seven months before it launched in 2017 so it wouldn’t be an unusual move for the series.

We haven’t really heard much on Gran Turismo 7 since its formal announcement back in June of last year. It was first said to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, although head of PlayStation Studios Herman Hulst heavily implied back in June that the game would also launch on PlayStation 4 too when it launches in 2022.
