Gamescom Opening Night LIVE 2022 – what to expect

Keighley himself has confirmed that the show will be about two hours long, and will feature “more than 35 games on stage”.

These will be a combination of both previously announced games, and completely new unannounced titles.

For the former, we’ve been drip-fed information from both publishers and Keighley himself over the past few weeks. A preview image, tweeted out hours before the show, confirmed a number of big names.

For a start, we’re expecting Sonic Frontiers to be a big part of this evening’s show. A release date, considering the game is set for the end of the year, is almost a certainty.

There’ll also be an update on The Callisto Protocol. The new horror from the creators of Dead Space is also due by the end of the year, so we’re likely to see something close to the finished article.

Other confirmed games include Hogwarts Legacy and Gotham Knights from Warner Bros. The former was delayed into February recently, so we’re curious to see how the Wizarding World RPG is coming along.

We’ve also got confirmed appearances from Goat Simulator 3, High on Life and Return to Monkey Island to look forward to.

We may also have a good idea of two as yet officially unconfirmed games. Borderlands is confirmed as a series to be there, and retailer leaks have pointed towards its appearance being a reveal of the upcoming New Tales from The Borderlands sequel.

Perhaps most excitingly, other retail leaks seem to imply we’ll finally be seeing the much-shrouded-in-mystery re-debut of Dead Island 2. It’s definitely going to be one to keep an eye on.

So bookmark this page, and join us at around 6pm UK time for all the reveals and more as they happen from Gamescom Opening Night LIVE 2022.
