Zero Build is a perfect addition to Fortnite, added back in Chapter 3. It allows casual players to compete more easily and get victories more often. Unfortunately, this mode hasn’t been very popular over the last few months. The classic mode has a much larger player base, which is why Epic Games decided to disable one Zero Build mode next month.
Epic announced the decision on X (formerly Twitter), revealing the reason for it and all the other details.
Fortnite OG players will no longer have access to the Ranked Zero Build mode
EDIT: The mode was disabled in smaller regions, Europe and North America to follow.
Over the past two years, Epic Games has added plenty of new modes in Fortnite. From Festival and Rocket Racing to LEGO Fortnite and Ballistic, the community has many choices regarding game modes. On top of this, players can make their own maps, which accounted for more than one-third of the total playtime last year.
While this variety is good, it also has a negative impact. Certain modes, such as Ranked Fortnite OG, do not have enough players. Due to this, Epic decided to disable it starting next month. This mode has hundreds of concurrent players, which is simply not sustainable. Ranked modes have no bots, and with stricter matchmaking and several server regions, it’s nearly impossible to get a full lobby.
Players from Brazil, the Middle East, Oceania, and Asia will lose access to Ranked OG Zero Build mode on March 4. On the other hand, Europe and NA-Central, two of the biggest regions in Fortnite, will keep this mode until the end of OG Season 2, set for March 25.
Despite the addition of the Fortnite Zero Build mode, the classic mode is still much more popular, especially in competitive gameplay. Epic clarified that the mode may return in the future. However, this will depend on the matchmaking health.
