Epic Games has added many fantastic features to Fortnite over the past few years. From customizable skins to new mechanics, the game has drastically evolved. However, one feature is still on the wishlist of many Fortnite players, and that is proximity chat. Interestingly, Epic added a version of this chat to the game with the latest update.

According to the game developer, proximity chat is scheduled to come out for UEFN in the last quarter of 2024. However, the feature was released with the v30.30 update and is currently available in certain game modes.

Proximity chat is available in Fortnite, but there is a twist

Adding proximity chat to Fortnite Battle Royale would certainly make the game mode more interesting. While there are certain downsides too, this feature could simply be optional. It appears that Epic Games will add it to the battle royale mode at some point, but for now, it’s only available in the Creative mode.

With the release of the latest update, Epic added proximity chat to certain maps in Creative. To activate the new feature, create a Fall Guys map, go to Island Settings, and turn on proximity chat from the Mode tab. You can also change a few more voice chat settings, such as full volume distance and fall of distance. Once you do this, you will also get Fall Guys skin in Fortnite!

The new feature is in early access, so it’s unclear if Epic Games intended to release it. However, considering that it’s scheduled to come out in a few months, it won’t be surprising if the game developer removes it with the next update.

With the next season coming on August 16, Epic will certainly add many new things to the game. Unfortunately, proximity chat likely won’t come to Fortnite Battle Royale with it, although we can expect it to be released in Chapter 6, which is currently scheduled for December 2024. In the meantime, we’ll be able to test it out in the Creative mode and see how it works.
