There are a lot of dream collaborations for Helldivers 2 with Arrowhead expressing their openness to IPs such as Crysis and Dead Space, as well as leaked weapons possibly pointing to Warhammer 40K. While these crossovers would be fantastic, not many Super Earth soldiers have been calling for a collaboration with Fortnite. However, following the reveal of Epic Games’ new season, a lot of players are crying out for an official crossover as everything about the new Fortnite season “screams Helldivers 2 collab”.
Fortnite fans call for official Helldivers 2 crossover
Epic Games recently released a trailer for their newest season, Chapter 6 Season 4, called “Shock N’ Awesome”. The trailer on YouTube is flooded with comments pointing out the similarities to Helldivers 2. Many comments reflect sentiments such as “Super Earth should deploy some Helldivers for this bug infestation” and “Such an obvious starship trooper & Helldivers inspired season & I love it”.
Even Epic Games’ official description of the season sounds similar to HD2. Epic Games’ blog post reads, “this is warfare, and the bugs… well, the bugs are winning. The Island is an absolute mess of goopy nests and egg sacs. Prepare to stomp and smash the swarm with the O.X.R., the Island’s anti-bug military defense force”.
New bugs in the Fortnite season include the Swarmer, Bomber, and Queen, and visually they are reminiscent of Arrowhead’s Terminids. On the Helldivers subreddit, players have called out the similarities, joking that “Fortnite is getting a Helldivers season”.
In the replies on Reddit, many believe Fortnite wanted a collaboration with Helldivers, and even prominent leaker, ShiinaBR, on X has said, “Everything about this season screams Helldivers collab”. Unfortunately, despite acknowledging the similarities, ShiinaBR also says “there’s literally no sign of it anywhere”.
There is the possibility Arrowhead could be cooking something in secret, similar to plans for an Xbox release prior to the announcement. However, nothing is happening as of writing, and the odds seem slim at best.
Previously, Arrowhead has dismissed the idea of crossing over with Fortnite, saying they “don’t want to be Kingdom Hearts or Fortnite”. This was because they only want to crossover with IPs that are thematically and visually suitable for Helldivers 2. However, this was in regard to bringing Fortnite into Helldivers 2 rather than the other way around. While Fortnite wouldn’t be suitable for Super Earth, bringing Super Earth soldiers into Fortnite would be fantastic and wouldn’t harm Arrowhead’s IP at all.
We’d love helldiver skins in Fortnite to become a reality, but as of right now nothing is happening. The next Helldivers 2 Warbond is expected to come out the same week HD2 releases on Xbox, and this suggests Arrowhead’s next WB is set to be their biggest yet.
