Epic Games has released hundreds of Fortnite updates over the past six and a half years. Thanks to these frequent changes, the game has become popular in almost every corner of the world. Epic seems to have found a recipe for success and is unlikely to stop following it anytime soon. Due to this, it’s no surprise that another game-changing update came out this morning.

With the release of the v29.20 Fortnite update, Epic did a major Item Shop overhaul. On top of it, the company also announced more changes that will come within a few weeks. Before we begin, however, make sure to check out our guide on how to unlock free Fortnite skins. If you enjoy shopping in Fortnite, you may also be interested in purchasing cheaper V-Bucks.

The Fortnite Item Shop just received the biggest change

With the April 9 update, Epic Games removed rarities from Fortnite. In the past, skins had four different rarities, starting with Uncommon (Green) which cost 800 V-Bucks. The most expensive rarity was Legendary (Gold), and each skin from this rarity cost 2,000 V-Bucks. However, these are no longer available in the game.

It’s important to note that this change will mostly affect original Fortnite skins. Collaboration skins will still have their rarities, allowing you to find them easily. Here is what Epic said regarding this change:

The Shop has evolved significantly to support multiple types of cosmetics and items across games, so we’re retiring the old Battle Royale-inspired system of colors and tags for cosmetic quality. Different Series of cosmetics — such as the Icon Series or Gaming Legends Series — will still be there to help you find your favorite stuff!

Besides this change, Epic will implement a new timer in the Fortnite Item Shop. Each cosmetic item will have its own timer that shows when it will rotate out of the shop, which will certainly be one of the most useful features. This will drastically reduce the impact of the FOMO factor and likely reduce impulse purchases.

According to the Fortnite developer, this new feature will come out in late May 2024, although the exact release date hasn’t been revealed. Considering that a new season is scheduled for May 24, the new timer may arrive with it.
