Players are getting this Fortnite skin for free, but no one knows why

Many players would love to get free Fortnite skins. They are generally obtained from the Item Shop and require V-Bucks for purchase. However, Epic Games has also released many free skins over the past few years, including the Xander skin.

Xander was available through the Refer-A-Friend program in 2022. It was free for everyone who completed a couple of challenges, yet for some reason, players are still receiving it. A lot of players reported getting the Xander outfit out of nowhere, but no one knows why this is happening.

It appears that Epic will keep granting the free Fortnite skin, and there’s an easy way to check it.

This free Fortnite skin is not supposed to be available

Xander is an outfit that was available during the last Refer-A-Friend program. The cosmetic item was available from July 19, 2022, to January 10, 2023. Due to this, it’s not supposed to be available. However, Epic Games has granted the outfit to many players over the past few days.

Besides the skin, players have also received other cosmetic items that were available last year, such as the pickaxe and the wrap. To make the situation even more confusing, no one knows why this is happening, but it’s most likely a bug on Epic Games’ end.

A lot of people have continued to get Refer-A-Friend 2.0 rewards including the Xander skin which you get by both you and your referred friend getting 60 levels during the event.

Epic hasn’t addressed the issue yet. Due to this, there is no way to tell if the company will remove the free Fortnite skin from ineligible lockers. Players are hoping to keep the outfit, but considering that it’s exclusive, it might be removed within the next few weeks.

According to Fortnite leakers, Epic will release another Refer-A-Friend program soon. Once again, players will be able to obtain a skin for free, along with its matching accessories. The release date of the program hasn’t been revealed yet, but it might be released during Chapter 4 – Season 4.
