Epic Games has been fighting against Fortnite cheaters for many years. Ever since the battle royale game came out in 2017, the developer has had a zero-tolerance policy towards players who break the rules. Over the past few months, Epic has sued several cheaters and cheat makers, and the most recent legal ruling came on Wednesday.
Before the launch of Chapter 6, the Fortnite developer announced an even stricter stance against cheaters. Since then, Epic has filed several lawsuits, and most of them have been ruled in the company’s favor, including the most recent one.
Fortnite cheater ordered to pay $175,000 after the lawsuit ruling
Back in December 2024, Epic Games filed a lawsuit against a competitive player in Fortnite. This player had been using both software and hardware cheats in order to gain an unfair advantage over the competition. Furthermore, the player made multiple accounts to avoid getting caught but to no avail. Epic caught up with him and took legal action.
On Wednesday, the Fortnite creator announced that the defendant ignored the lawsuit. Due to this, the judge involved in the case ruled in Epic’s favor, making the player pay $175,000. All of this money will go to charity, the company revealed on X (formerly Twitter). Furthermore, the cheater has received a lifetime ban from Fortnite.
The Fortnite developer will keep taking action against cheaters, so we expect even more lawsuits in the future. While most cheaters receive bans, those who break the rules in competitive gameplay face much harsher penalties. After all, Fortnite has many cash cups, so forcing cheaters to return the money and pay fines is a logical solution.
Epic’s continued efforts reinforce its message: cheating won’t be tolerated, especially when money and fairness are at stake.
