We recently learned that Fortnite Chapter 6 is set to begin before the end of the year, with new leaks stating we will move to the new map on December 1st. Along with a new map, plenty of changes will make the new Chapter feel fresh and exciting for players. Some of the biggest changes will be improvements to movement mechanics, and these two new mechanics have been requested for many years.

Fortnite leaker HYPEX has revealed new information regarding what to expect from Chapter 6, including new mechanics. Here is what we know so far:

  • Prone Mechanic
  • Swinging Mechanic
  • Possible new Modes
  • Creative Pets Support
  • Releases December 1st
  • Possible Floating Islands Theme

Prone is when the character lies flat on their front on the ground, which is often used to line up shots with weapons such as sniper rifles when the person needs to remain hidden. Players have been requesting this movement feature for many years now, as it is a key component of games such as Call of Duty. Since Chapter 3 introduced mechanics such as sprinting, Fortnite’s movement has drastically changed, with mantling, climbing, and sliding being added. This feels like a natural progression and will help freshen up the gameplay in the next Chapter.

Another interesting mechanic will be swinging. There have been some collaborations, such as Lara Croft in Chapter 2 Season 5, where this would have made a lot of sense. This will likely mean that the new Chapter 6 map will be tailored to suit swinging, perhaps players will be able to swing from trees. Spider-Man brought the Web Shooters to Fortnite in Chapter 3 Season 1 which was a great mobility item, so it will be interesting to see how this one is implemented.
