Aim assist is a big part of every shooter game, and Fortnite is no exception. Epic Games’ battle royale game is popular on both PC and console, with millions of active players on a daily basis. The game also has crossplay enabled, which is a positive thing, but also quite controversial. As a consequence, many controller players believe they cannot catch up with PC players.

While the addition of crossplay has created a rift in the community, this may have just changed. With the release of the v31.20 update on September 17, Fortnite buffed its aim assist on controllers on all platforms, making it more effective.

Aim assist in Fortnite is much better with the new update

Aim assist has always been a controversial topic in gaming. Controller players believe that it’s too weak, while keyboard and mouse players consider it overpowered. The truth is somewhere in between, but finding the perfect balance is almost impossible. However, Epic Games is certainly trying to do that, as the latest Fortnite update drastically changed aim assist.

Here is what Epic revealed in the latest patch notes:

On all platforms (console, PC, mobile), v31.20 introduces human-like aim assist for controller players, which models human reaction time while trying to better match how unassisted keyboard + mouse players track moving targets.

With these changes, controller players should be more effective with their shots. However, it’s important to note that Epic will monitor the performance of aim assist and make more changes to it if necessary. Due to this, we might get another tweak within a few weeks.

To turn on aim assist in Fortnite, you need to switch your controller settings to advanced. From there, you can set the aim assist strength and several other settings that fine-tune your controller movement.
