Square Enix has dropped a new lengthy ten-minute trailer for magical action adventure game Forspoken.

The footage gives us our best look yet at the upcoming adventures of Frey, a New York teen who finds herself transported to the magical realm of Athia. There she must stop an evil corruption, known as the Blight.

The footage includes our first proper look at Cipal. This is the last major haven of Athia that hasn’t been touched by the Blight. As such, it’s where Frey will touch base when she’s not whizzing around the wilds.

Here, she’ll trade weapons and magical trinkets, and prep for her journey. She’ll also meet a bunch of NPCs who’ll have quests for her to take on.

It’s a nice meaty chunk of gameplay, and puts us in the mind of Infamous crossed with Horizon Zero Dawn. With a dragon fantasy skew, of course.

Forspoken – Release date, story DLC info and more

Forspoken is currently scheduled for a January 24, 2023 release date on PlayStation 5 and PC.

The game was originally intended to release in Spring of this year. However, it was first pushed to October in March. Just a few months later, it would be delayed again, this time into January 2023.

A press release alongside the trailer also revealed a timetable for the game’s first story DLC. Entitled Forspoken: In Tantra We Trust, it’ll apparently be some sort of prequel story, and will be available in Summer 2023.

Forspoken – Pre order info

Forspoken is available to pre order now in three flavours: Digital Standard, Digital Deluxe and the Physical Edition.

Pre-orders of all editions will get a Symbol Combo Necklace, a No Limits Cloak and Trigger Happy Nails. They’ll also get a Crafting Starter Kit.

Those who opt for the Digital Deluxe Edition will also get a Digital Mini Artbook, a Digital Mini Soundtrack, a Rare Resource Kit and the In Tantra We Trust Story DLC for no extra cost.
