Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed a free update coming to PS5 when the game launches on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S. The update will add a list of “Streamlined Progression” cheats, as well as “lighting improvements” from the PC version.
Hamaguchi posted on X that the PS5 update will “coincide with the launch of FF7 Rebirth on Switch 2 and Xbox”. This suggests the update will arrive on June 3, which is the release date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2, as recently revealed during the February 2026 Nintendo Direct.
Below is the list of “Streamlined Progression” cheats that will be added, via Japanese gaming news aggregator Genki_JPN on X:
- HP is always full
- MP is always full
- Limit gauge is always full
- ATB gauge is always full
- Synergy gauge is always full
- Max damage in minigames
- More materials collected
- Max Materia levels
- 2× EXP and 3× AP gain
- Damage dealt is always 9,999
Assuming the system functions the same way as it did in Final Fantasy 7 Intergrade, you will be able to complete the game with these cheats enabled while still unlocking trophies. This should make earning the Platinum trophy significantly easier.
As for the lighting improvements, they were originally teased in September 2025, making this a long-awaited update. The changes will bring the lighting optimizations from the PC version to PS5, resulting in more natural and lifelike visuals, as illustrated by comparison images shared on Reddit.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the second installment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. The next release will be Part 3, and there is a possibility its title could be revealed at the upcoming February 2026 State of Play, or later during Summer Game Fest in June.
Square Enix has not announced a release window for Part 3, but there is hope it could launch in 2027 to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the original PS1 classic, which was released in 1997. Hamaguchi has revealed that Part 3 is “playable,” sparking hope that a reveal may arrive soon.
We haven’t seen anything of Part 3 yet, but Hamaguchi reportedly believes Square Enix has “nailed” the iconic lifestream scene between Cloud and Tifa.
