With Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade now released on Switch 2, the director of the remake trilogy, Naoki Hamaguchi, made an appearance at the Nintendo New York store, where he shed light on how Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 3’s development process is going.

“In terms of the third installment [in the remake trilogy], I believe we are coming along very smoothly,” began Hamaguchi (via Polygon).

“We have set a schedule for ourselves, and I believe we are tracking on time for the milestones we have set,” he added.

“So I’m really thankful for the development team, and I have so much respect for them for working on this project […] I believe that at this point the game is playable, technically, but we are still trying to polish it so it is at a quality where we can deliver it to our players.”

While we cannot speculate much, the smooth progress continues to be a promising sign. There is a good chance we could see Remake part 3 sooner than some fans expect; the game being fully playable is nothing to scoff at.

Hamaguchi also shared some more details on minigames we may expect to see in this last leg of the journey. Popular in-universe card game Queen’s Blood will make a return – a point Hamaguchi stressed during the interview.

“I want to expand on Queen’s Blood so that we are enhancing it and giving you a more powerful version of it when you see that third installment,” Hamaguchi explained.

“Queen’s Blood is still going to be available in the third installment. We just want to expand on it.”

It would appear that framing and improving the new and old iconic minigames from Final Fantasy 7 has been of clear importance to the remake development team.

Hamaguchi also made his goals clear regarding the iconic snowboarding minigame from the original Final Fantasy 7.

“We understand that it’s not going to be just a simple snowboarding minigame,” offered Hamaguchi.

“We want to make sure that it’s incorporated into the story to have that sort of connection with the theming of it.”

The Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth minigames were a clear highlight. While the development update is highly promising, the seeming commitment to unique and meaningful minigames suggests that Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 3 is on the right track when it comes to capturing the charming and entertainingly janky minigames of the original Final Fantasy 7.
