Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was revealed during the February Nintendo Direct, alongside the announcement of a June 3, 2026, release date. The imminent arrival of FF7 Rebirth is surprising, as the Nintendo Switch 2 only recently received the first installment of the ambitious Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, Intergrade, on January 22 this year.
Bringing FF7 Rebirth to the Nintendo Switch 2 is a significant achievement for Square Enix, as it is a much larger experience than Intergrade. The game can take up to 100 hours to complete, and its story follows Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret and others as they explore several massive regions, including the Grasslands, Cosmo Canyon, and Gongaga.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in 2025, and its sales have outpaced the original Nintendo Switch by 10 million units. Unlike the original Switch, third-party developers have said the Nintendo Switch 2 is “super easy” to develop for, which may explain why more major third-party releases are arriving on the platform, such as the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem.
As for FF7 Rebirth, it is a remarkable experience that sets up the events of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. Square Enix has not announced when Part 3 will arrive, but the director of FF7 Rebirth has said Part 3 is “playable,” raising hopes for a possible 2027 release. Arriving next year would be appropriate as 2027 also marks the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy 7, which launched on the PS1 in 1997.
Reliable leaker NateTheHate has predicted that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will not be a timed PS5 exclusive at launch, fueling speculation that it could release simultaneously on the Nintendo Switch 2. Regardless of whether that happens, FF7 Rebirth stands on its own as a must-play experience, thanks to its expansive world and unforgettable characters.
