FIFA 23 Showdown: Weghorst Vs Elliott – Who should you choose?

This coming weekend we get to witness one of the biggest and oldest rivalries in English football when highflying Manchester United take on misfiring Liverpool. To celebrate the game, FIFA 23 has released another Showdown SBC, where you will choose between Wout Weghorst of Manchester United and Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliot.

In order to get these players you need to complete the SBC for the player you want, if their side wins they get a +2 in ratings, if they draw a +1 and if they lose their rating stays the same. We are going to dive into each card and look at whether or not you should complete one, both or neither of these cards before they expire. 

FIFA 23 Showdown: Harvey Elliott– CAM – 88 Overall 

Of the two cards Harvey Elliot is certainly the most flexible as he can play in four different positions across the pitch (CM, CAM, RW, LW), whilst he also boasts five star skill moves. The biggest draw of this card, outside of being able to play in multiple positions, is the cards dribbling. With Elliott on the wing, you will always be able to carve out some space with his close control and flair.

However, Manchester United would be slight favourites to win this game, simply because they’re in truly frightening form of late and Liverpool being at home doesn’t look like it will phase Ten Hags men. 

FIFA 23 Showdown: Wout Weghorst – ST – 88 Overall 

Elliott will be facing off in this showdown against the 6’6” giant that is Wout Weghorst, who only recently joined Manchester United. If you look back to FIFA 22, Weghorst received a similar card then, when he was at Burnley, and it was incredibly cracked. The card was a nuisance for defenders, and particularly stood out on corners. Having him attacking the ball off a corner was almost a guaranteed goal.

Without the upgrade, he will already be a great striker and much like Elliott will be easy enough to link. The only problem is, tall strikers are normally not as desirable as shorter, more agile players. Weghorst is likely the perfect target man, it’s just whether or not you like to play that way. It’s worth noting though, he will be the favourite to get an upgrade. 

Our Verdict

Once again, it is another close call in the Showdown Series in FIFA 23. We think Wout Weghorst will be the more exciting pick, just because he is more unique and there are a lot of decent Premier League wingers in FIFA 23.

Both cards are very dear though, coming in at over 300,000 coins to complete so we would recommend only completing them if you have the fodder in your club. Elliott isn’t too different to the Gordon card that was available via objectives so the value isn’t great.
