EA has announced the formation of a brand new studio known as Ridgeline Games, that’ll be creating a new narrative campaign set in the Battlefield universe.

The newly-formed studio is based in Seattle, and will be lead by Marcus Lehto -who himself is the former co-creator of the Halo series. Joining him will be a team of industry veterans from around the world.

Lehto provides a quote for his new team’s appointment. “It is a great honor to have the opportunity to collaborate with DICE and Ripple Effect and lead the charge on expanding the narrative, storytelling and character development opportunities in the Battlefield series.”

Byron Beede, general manager of the series added in an open letter to fans that the campaign will aim to “engage fans in new and exciting ways while remaining true to the classic elements of the series.”

Many fans will be hoping for the potential return of something akin to late noughties sub series Bad Company. For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

The open letter also revealed the departure of DICE Creative Director Lars Gustavsson. The 20-year veteran of the series is apparently “ready for a new adventure” and was thanked for his contribution by Beede.

It first came to light that Lehto had joined EA back in October of last year. Job listings for the studio were spotted just a couple of months ago.

Prior to that, Lehto was the former President of V1 interactive, who only managed to make their one and only game Disintegration before the studio’s closure in March of this year.

Meanwhile, Battlefield 2042 released to a very rocky reception back in November. It has, however, just released Season Two entitled Master of Arms.
