In the world of Electronic Arts, whatever it states about football is essentially the sporting equivalent of the bible. It’s the truth, folks, and no truth is more ‘just’ than EA’s list of the Top 100 players in the world. Some of you will have just finished playing the demo, sweat beading its way across your clammy features, with a shimmer of joy in your eyes. The rest of you may just be aghast at the fact that Jonjo Shelvey (and his delicate sensibility) hasn’t made it into the Top 10, let alone the top 100. Whatever your thoughts, this could be a controversial list.

Unsurprisingly, FIFA 18’s cover star Cristiano Ronaldo is the top-ranking player, followed by Lionel Messi, and the world’s most expensive player Neymar Jr at number three. The top five players in the world also include the toothy-chap Luis Suarez and the ever stoic Manuel Neuer. One English Premier League player manages to make it into the top ten: Chelsea’s very own Eden Hazard. This list is a good indicator of the players that’ll be required to create a formidable team, especially for those who are planning their FIFA Ultimate Team lineup for the new season.

Have a look at the the Top 100 for yourself, and see how many players you may feel have been unfairly omitted, or fume at those undeserving of being amongst the 100 best in the world. There are some brilliant players in the top 30, though personally I’m a little miffed Juan Mata doesn’t feature anywhere, but at least De Gea is in the top 20.

The demo for FIFA 18 on the PS4, Xbox One and PC came out yesterday. FIFA 18 will release worldwide on September 29 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
