Update 16/8: Blizzard has now re-enabled player trading after deploying its promised fix for the duplication glitch a few hours after the release of the game’s latest patch.

Though the issue was still being investigated when the Diablo 4 1.1.2 patch arrived last night, as of this morning community manager Adam Fletcher updated fans on the Blizzard forums. “We have re-enabled trade in Diablo 4 this evening after a backend fix to address the exploit.” Players should now be able to trade items and gold with one another once more.

ORIGINAL STORY FOLLOWS: Blizzard has temporarily put a halt to player trading in Diablo 4 after the developer was made aware of a glitch allowing players to duplicate gold and items.

Blizzard announced the decision to the community over on the game’s official forums. “We’ve suspended player trading in Diablo 4 until further notice due to a gold and item duplication exploit. We are working on a fix to amend this issue and will update you once we’ve reinstated the ability to trade. Once that is done, we will continue to monitor this activity to ensure a healthy playing experience for all. As always, any account that engages in gold and item duplication exploits will be actioned in accordance with our End User License Agreement. We thank you for reporting this exploit to us and your patience.”

While the exact method players were duplicating gold and items is, for understandable reasons, unconfirmed, the exploit appears to have come to light over the weekend, when a number of players reported on the Diablo 4 Subreddit that they were seeing trades for items for absurd amounts of gold for legendary items.

There’s no concrete information on when the exploit is expected to be fixed and player trading will return to Diablo 4, but the game’s 1.1.2 patch is expected to drop later today, and will include fixes for a frustrating bug related to the Fury Against Fate quest, as well as squish a couple of outstanding exploits that allowed players to farm Nightmare Dungeons by promoting party members to leader.
