Anyone who hasn’t been able to get onto the Diablo 4 Closed Beta last weekend is itching to get onto the open beta this weekend. As the time ticks down till the start time, many out there are wondering if the ‘New Zealand trick’ is going to let you play it early.

The technique sometimes allows you to access games early thanks to a nifty little trick that alters your system’s time zone to a country such as NZ, at which midnight comes ‘earlier.’ However, it’s not a sure-fire trick, as Modern Warfare 2 actually managed to block this trick.

Can you play the Diablo 4 Open Beta early with the New Zealand trick?

Unfortunately, the Diablo 4 developers, Blizzard, might have clocked onto the trick. The game will experience a global release time at 4PM GMT, which will be synchronised across all time zones. This means that despite midnight arriving earlier in NZ than other parts of the world, it won’t really make a difference.

This isn’t the worst news, as it ensures that all gamers get to experience the game simultaneously. We admire the egalitarian approach.
