With the Nintendo Direct now finished, we saw some amazing game reveals including Detective Pikachu Returns, Super Mario RPG Remake, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. While those are all great additions to the lineup, Nintendo fans were, as always, expecting so much more.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of seven games that would have elevated the June Nintendo Direct to something truly special, instead of the slightly above average showing we got:

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Let’s be honest here, this was the game everyone was tuning in for. You know it. I know it. Team Cherry probably knows it too. We’ve seen bits and pieces of the highly anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight since it was announced back in 2019, and with every Nintendo Direct fans have been begging for any form of news about the game, specifically a release date.

The original Hollow Knight took the indie scene by storm due to its difficulty, Metroidvania layout and beautiful art style. The game is still talked about and praised to this day and given Hollow Knight Silksong was delayed out of the first half of 2023 we desperately needed Team Cherry to show us some brand-new content.

Metroid Prime 2 & 3 Remastered

This Nintendo Direct would have been the perfect time to reveal some more Metroid content. Given the unexpected nature of Metroid Prime Remastered’s reveal as it shadow-dropped onto Nintendo Switch at a previous Nintendo Direct, and the looming tension surrounding the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4 it would have been fantastic to see Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3 get the same treatment as the first game.

It’s safe to say that the Metroid Prime games could do with some love and updating to bring them to the Nintendo Switch ahead of a possible Metroid Prime 4 release at some point in the future. We can only hope.

Metroid Prime 4

Speaking of Metroid Prime 4, given the fact that a Metroid Prime 4 Nintendo Store page recently appeared earlier this month, it seemed more than likely Nintendo was gearing up for a big Metroid announcement. However, that wasn’t the case.

Originally announced back at E3 2017 it’s fair to say Metroid fans have waited long enough for a brand-new entry in the Metroid Prime series. It would also be interesting to see how Retro Studios and Nintendo would tackle a completely new first-person game with the Metroid IP.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

The Legend of Zelda hype is real at the moment. Whether players are wishing they Link’s powers in real life or terrorizing poor Koroks in Tears of the Kingdom, players just want more Zelda games. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is up there with some of the best games in the series and to see even just the HD version, which was originally made available on the Wii U, make its way to Nintendo Switch would have been a dream come true for many players.

While it’s doubtful that a full-blown remake of the game is on the cards for future Nintendo Directs, it’s pretty reasonable to request that Nintendo create a better backwards-compatible log of games on the Nintendo Switch, especially for one of their flagship IPs.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom DLC

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been a huge hit for Nintendo. It’s fair to say that there’s probably DLC in development and a previous version of the Tears of the Kingdom website at one point mentioned, “Full version of game is required to use DLC. Sold Separately.” The website has since been amended to remove that line but we all know it’s coming now. With that in mind, it would have been amazing to see any information on what the Zelda team could possibly be working on at today’s Direct.

Tomodachi Life

A surprising one to be sure but Nintendo fans have been begging for a rerelease of Tomodachi Life on the Nintendo Switch. The original game was first published in Japan back in 2013 before making its way to Western audiences during the summer of 2014.

While the game initially received mixed reviews, it has become somewhat of a cult classic with players focusing on its great gameplay and charm. Tomodachi Life is actually a sequel to Tomodachi Collection, which was released exclusively in Japan, so a port of either Tomodachi Life or both games would have been surreal to see. Maybe something for the future?

A new Kirby game

Kirby is great! Who doesn’t love Kirby? Kirby and the Forgotten Land was a surprise hit in 2022 and while Kirby has never been as recognizable to the general public in comparison to Mario or Link, fans adore the pink blob. Seeing any update on future Kirby projects would have made for a welcome addition to the Nintendo Direct.
