Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima has shared an image of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 developer Sandfall Interactive at Kojima Productions, immediately sparking speculation.
Clair Obscur devs meet Hideo Kojima
After previously praising Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for delivering a gorgeous, game of the year contender with just a small team, Kojima has invited the French developers to his Japanese studio following the completion of the also-great Death Stranding 2.
Shared on social media, Kojima shared an image of the development team posing alongside himself and Kojima Productions’ skull-faced astronaut mascot Ludens.
The image immediately sparked speculation that Death Stranding 2 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will eventually cross over in some form of post-launch update. After all, almost everyone photographed with Kojima in the brightly lit room ends up in some form of Kojima Productions game.
Sandfall Interactive has already confirmed that additional Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 content will be arriving later this year following the massive success of the turn-based game. With Sandfall already drilling up ideas for its second game, it’ll be years until the team creates a new game, but at least we’ll get some minor goodies first.
As for Kojima, there will likely be some degree of post-launch content for Death Stranding 2, especially considering the first game’s Director’s Cut re-release.
Hideo Kojima is also working on two new games. Despite having ideas for Death Stranding 3, the Metal Gear Solid creator is working on OD with Jordan Peele, a new Xbox-published horror game, and the MGS spiritual successor Physint.
Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2 are both prime Game of the Year contenders for the annual Game Awards at the end of the year. Likely going up against Donkey Kong Bananza, it’s going to be an interesting battle quickly ended by an annoying Geoff Keighley award.
