Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has just hit 3.3 million sales across PC and console, marking a major hit for the fledgling AA game developer. After spending years on its cinematic turn-based RPG, the studio already has plans for its next adventure.
Speaking to GamesIndustry, Sandfall producer François Meurisse explained that the team will “for sure” make another title, and there are already plans in place. However, the developer isn’t revealing any details about its next title. Will it be another turn-based game? We sure hope so.
Expedition 33 devs already have a new game in mind
As the studio hits its new sales milestone, Meurisse explained that the team “has had success to an extent that we didn’t imagine”. After smashing their “forecasts pretty fast”, the beloved RPG is just continuing to sell.
When asked about the studio’s next game, the producer explained that there are definitely ideas in place. However, they’re not revealing anything until the project is ready to show. (That sounds a lot like Larian Studios and their two new projects).
“There will be another video game, for sure,” Meurisse said before adding: “I can’t wait to dig more into the ideas we already have for the next game.”
While it took Sandfall five years of full development to bring Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 into reality, the producer explains that the team should have a faster turnaround for their next game. Alongside having a more experienced core team, the game studio has managed to hire more developers after its recent success.
“I can’t wait to get to the next project, because we’ll start from a more efficient position than when we started the company five years ago,” the producer said. “And that [comes] with higher expectations as well, so it will be challenging.”
However, the producer also explained that the team and Expedition 33 creative director Guillaume Broche “in particular has – great ideas for the next game.” Whatever it is, we will be there on day one.
