PlayStation users won’t need to worry for ‘several years’ about Call of Duty becoming an Xbox exclusive.

In a statement to The Verge, Xbox boss Phil Spencer reassured Sony fans will still get ‘content parity’ for some time yet – following Microsoft’s purchase of Activision.

“In January, we provided a signed agreement to Sony to guarantee Call of Duty on PlayStation, with feature and content parity, for at least several more years beyond the current Sony contract, an offer that goes well beyond typical gaming industry agreements,” he said.

In January this year, Microsoft revealed they would buy Activision Blizzard for $95.00 per share, in an all-cash transaction valued at $68.7 billion.

Call of Duty is just one a handful of blockbuster titles that are part of the deal, including the likes of OverWatch, Candy Crush and Warcraft.

The deal, valued at $68.7 billion and set to close at the end of fiscal year 2023, will see Microsoft become the world’s third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony.

“Gaming is the most dynamic and exciting category in entertainment across all platforms today and will play a key role in the development of metaverse platforms,” said Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO, Microsoft at the time.

“We’re investing deeply in world-class content, community and the cloud to usher in a new era of gaming that puts players and creators first and makes gaming safe, inclusive and accessible to all.”

“Players everywhere love Activision Blizzard games, and we believe the creative teams have their best work in front of them,” said Phil Spencer, CEO, Microsoft Gaming.

“Together we will build a future where people can play the games they want, virtually anywhere they want.”
