Modern Warfare 2 will bring with it a host of new multiplayer maps, when it launches in October this year.

We’ve already caught a glimpse of a few of them, the most recent being Farm 18, which was the first Intel Drop revealed by developer Infinity Ward.

Farm 18 is set in a an abandoned industrial cement factory, which doubles up as a secret training facility.

“Farm 18 came out of the idea that we kind of liked the Shoothouse facility map, so we decided to think of hidden training facilities but it’s also in an industrial cement factory,” said Geoff Smith, Director of Multiplayer design, on the teaser video.

He added: “The idea was, what if we put a sort of Shoot house type of situation in the middle. If you really want to play that crazy game you can go to the center and that action will find you. If you want to pull back and play a different way it’s still available to you.”

The team went on to detail how hard it was to strike a ‘perfect harmony’ between level aesthetics and gameplay.

Even though there is foliage in the level, for example, it has been balanced to stop people from hiding in the corners. On the flip side, if it’s not dense enough, it doesn’t sell the narrative of the overgrowth.

How to take part in the Modern Warfare 2 beta

There’s a few methods to get into the beta but the good news is that Infinity Ward often does giveaways via media partners, like ModernWarzone, so keep an eye on those channels.

The easiest way to get involved is to pre-order the game. Beta access is available in both physical and digital editions of the game.
