The beta for Blackout, Call of Duty's foray into battle royale, is coming next week and will support 80 players in each match, Treyarch has announced.

In an interview with Game Informer, Treyarch bigwig Dan Bunting said the developer had been aiming for 100 players while testing in-house, but essentially the studio wanted gameplay to be 'as refined as it can be,' rather than hitting that number for the beta.

'We’re going to actively be participating in the community and taking feedback, making changes and adapting, evolving the game as feedback rolls in, Bunting said. 'So there’s a lot that can go on that can happen beyond that first impact of the game going out there.'

By the sounds of it, Treyarch is hoping to launch Blackout with the same number of players that hop off the Battle Bus in Fortnite and parachute out of a plane in PUBG, but, at least for now, you'll have to make do with outlasting 79 others when the beta kicks off.

PS4 players get early access, and will be able to jump on from September 10 at 5pm BST, whilst those on PC and Xbox will have to wait until 5pm BST on September 14 before they can perfect their battle royale skills.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is scheduled to launch on October 12 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
