Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout beta will kick off on September 10, giving players first bite of the series' entry into battle royale territory.

PlayStation 4 owners will be able to access the teaser before any other format, although that's hardly surprising seeing as how Sony is still snuggling up to Activision for timed-exclusive content on Call of Duty.

The publishing giant hasn't yet announced when PC and Xbox One gamers can get in on the action, although presumably it won't be too long after PS4 players.

In addition to the date, Activision also revealed a few new details on Blackout, with the mode not only allowing you to play solo, but also tackle the action as part of a duo or squad. So far, we've seen all of 13 seconds on Call of Duty's battle royale offering.

Rumours have indicated that Blackout will accommodate 60 players, although Activision is still keeping mum on the subject of player count.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is pencilled in for an October 12 release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
