Activision has revealed in a blog post that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will introduce a new weapons-based system known as Signature Weapons.

While the name may sound kind of flashy, Signature Weapons basically offer cosmetic tweaks to Black Ops 4's base weapons. While they don't affect gameplay in any way, they do come equipped with their own challenges and rewards.

In order to unlock these cosmetic rewards, you'll have to complete the aforementioned challenges; however, the publishing giant hasn't yet detailed exactly what these tasks will entail. The Signature Weapon's ultimate reward will be the Mastercraft version of that firearm, which to be fair, do look kind of nice.

Sadly it's not known yet how you will get your mitts on Signature Weapons, although some of them come with the Digital Deluxe, Digital Deluxe Enhanced, and Pro Editions of the upcoming military-themed shooter.

One example of a Signature Weapon can be found in the shape of the Divinity pistol, which can be upgraded to the Divine Justice variation upon completing its associated challenges.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is due out on October 12 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.

Those of you who fancy taking the game's new Blackout mode for a spin can give it a try in the upcoming beta session, which kicks off on PS4 in early September followed by PC and Xbox One a few days later.

Can a battle royale mode save Call of Duty though? That's the question VideoGamer's Josh Wise pondered after testing out the regular multiplayer offerings.
