2K Games and Gearbox have announced the surprise standalone release of former Borderlands 2 DLC Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.

The reasoning for the standalone release is of course to get fans ready for next year’s Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. To that end, this release’s full moniker is Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure. It’s a fairly shrewd move, given it’s arguably Borderlands 2‘s best DLC and the ‘one-shot’ conceit fits right in with the D&D-alike concept.

In case you’re not familiar, you won’t need too much knowledge of Borderlands 2 to play. A delightful little side story sees Tiny Tina recruit Borderlands 2‘s heroes for a rousing game of Bunkers and Badasses. You’ll go on a mystical quest where everything, including setting, gameplay and more changes according to Tina’s whims.

Randy Pitchford’s provided some more justification for this release in a quote. “With the original Dragon’s Keep, not only did we introduce an entirely new genre into the critically acclaimed Borderlands series, we created and developed some of Gearbox’s most impressive gameplay and storytelling. I am thrilled for Tiny Tina’s original adventure to be readily available for a new generation of players, and also for long-time fans to come back to where the story started and once-again experience the magic that inspired Wonderlands.”

Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One Shot Adventure is available now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. It’ll also be a free giveaway on the Epic Game Store until November 16. Fully-fledged follow-up Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, meanwhile, is expected on March 25, 2022.
