For Call of Duty players wanting to get their competitive fix, Ranked Play is the place to be. Featuring the same rules and restrictions used by the esports pros, the mode has already captured the attention of fans aiming for the very top of the ladder. Following the launch of Black Ops 6 Ranked Play, hackers were quick to ruin matches.

Since then, players have either opted to avoid the competitive mode altogether or attempt to take on the cheaters with varying degrees of success. With the Ranked Play season in full swing, the team behind Call of Duty’s anti-cheat has already started taking action in order to restore a level playing field once again.

Black Ops 6 anti-cheat takes action

To highlight the continuing efforts to stop hackers from gaining an unfair advantage, Ricochet has shared insight into the work going on to stop them from impacting Ranked Play matches. Alongside sweeps every hour to remove them from the leaderboards and the use of AI to improve the enforcement of the rules, it has also revealed it has banned over 19,000 accounts since Ranked Play launched on November 21.

The announcement was met with plenty of positivity from players growing tired of competing against cheaters armed with the ability to react instantly and see through walls with ease. “Thank you for the comms,” comments one player. “I noticed way less aimbotters in lobbies which is a W.”

On the other hand, many believe that more needs to be done so there’s little to no chance of a cheater entering a match and using their hacks to guarantee themselves a victory. “This is a start but this has got to be better on year 3 of this anti-cheat,” adds another frustrated fan.

A step forward?

Any number of bans attempting to address the widespread hacking in Black Ops 6 Ranked Play is a step in the right direction. There’s nothing worse than encountering a cheater when you’re expecting a game where players of similar skill battle it out to earn that all-important SR required to climb into the next skill division. 19,000 is only a small percentage of players but removing them altogether is essential if Ranked Play is going to feature a minimal amount of hackers disrupting the action.

The steps unveiled by Ricochet are a positive but it’s clear more needs to be done to fully address the issue of cheaters creating a miserable experience for Black Ops 6 players after a more competitive experience.
