Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has already become one of the biggest games in CoD’s history. Alongside being a major success for CoD, the game’s release is even breaking records for internet providers with UK companies EE and BT dishing out more data than ever before.

The internet is cracking for Black Ops 6

With the game’s massive file size and need for a constant internet connection to even play its campaign, internet providers have been slammed with the demand for Black Ops 6.

Via ISPreview, EE and BT were slammed with the “biggest ever amount of gaming traffic” on the network. EE launched its internet service in 2012, over a decade ago, and Black Ops 6’s launch has driven more data than any other title in this period.

EE reports that the largest spike in data traffic was during the game’s pre-load period on October 12, 2024. During this time, the service saw a 144% spike in Xbox Live traffic as thousands downloaded the game across the United Kingdom.

The massive data spike for Black Ops 6 wasn’t unexpected. Over the past few months, EE has been heavily promoting the new game with exclusive bundle offers tying into the CoD title. If anything was going to crack the internet provider’s records, this would be it.

A Game Pass success

As the first Call of Duty game to launch in Xbox Game Pass on PC and Xbox platforms, millions of gamers are jumping onto the title via Microsoft’s subscription service. However, the game is still proving extremely popular on PlayStation 4 and 5.

Despite some slow leveling issues, a slew of error codes, and game-breaking Zombies glitches, Black Ops 6 is one of the strongest CoD games in years. After the disappointment of Modern Warfare 3, which felt like a glorified DLC, this new entry feels like a return to form.

With a year of updates planned, there’s also a tonne of game modes, maps and weapons still set to come to the new CoD. Will it remain as popular in the coming months? Only time will tell.
